The cause of a disturbing scene in the parking garage of a major Clearwater Beach hotel earlier this week has been solved by detectives following an investigation.
Clearwater police said in a statement that a man found in an actively burning car on the third floor of the parking garage at the Edge Hotel on Gulfview Boulevard had already suffered a gunshot wound by the time they arrived. The gunshot wound was self-inflicted and the victim, whose name was not released publicly, was deceased.
“An adult male set the car on fire and then shot himself,” said police spokesman Rob Shaw. “It is believed he is not from this area.”
Police were called to the hotel at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday morning for a report of a fire, which led them to discover the body of the victim.
